DANIELLE KNERR NAMED SPA DIRECTOR AT THE SPA AT NORWICH INN

NORWICH, Conn. – Danielle Knerr of Lisbon, who joined The Spa at Norwich Inn as a housekeeper in 1997 and earned a series of rapid promotions and professional certifications, has been named spa director for the property. She succeeds Betty Loiacono, who has moved to Foxwoods as spa director of The Grand Salon and Spa, which is being re-branded as The Norwich Spa at Foxwoods.

“I am particularly proud to make this announcement, given the incredible journey that Danielle has undertaken at this property during the last 12 years,” said John G. O’Shaughnessy, general manager of The Spa at Norwich Inn. “She has proven herself again and again over the years as a hard-working, talented and loyal member of our management team.”

A native of Long Island, Ms. Knerr moved with her family to eastern Connecticut in 1993. In 1997, she joined the spa’s housekeeping department, where she cleaned rooms on the night shift. She was promoted in 1998 to assistant night housekeeping supervisor and in 1999 to housekeeping night supervisor. At the end of that year, she transferred to the spa, where she worked as spa desk concierge. In 2000 she was promoted to front desk supervisor, in 2002 to spa operations manager and in 2006 to assistant spa director. With her recent promotion, she now supervises a staff of 100 licensed massage therapists, estheticians, fitness instructors and support staff. She also supervises staff and operations at the Salon and the Boutique on the spa’s property.

Ms. Knerr became a licensed massage therapist in 2005. During the last several years, she has earned certifications in Reiki, CranioSacral and Oncology Massage and has been recognized as a Certified Spa Supervisor by the International Spa Association.

Also, in partnership with the ECHO Cancer Foundation of Norwich, she spearheaded the creation and this year’s launch of The Fragile Client, a program of spa services for people living with cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and other chronic illnesses.

The Spa at Norwich Inn, a 100-room property, includes accommodations in the 1930 Georgian Colonial Revival-style inn and in adjacent villas. It was voted Best Destination Spa by the Editors of Connecticut Magazine and recognized for “Best Pampering in Connecticut “ by the Editors of YANKEE Magazine in 2009.
